i had decided to write this person who'd endured a jail sentence as a celebrity. i couldn't figure out if it was some mrs. b or a martha stewart. all i could think of was towels. . . . .now four years later she's 'my person.'

i thank the word 'jail' for shaking me awake to the dearness of this lady --------- MARTHA STEWART.

Sitting around the cauldron campfire in front of our cabin office in Norton, Massachusetts, our board of directors said, "Martha".

We choose to tell our story to you to open our media floodgates for the thousands of families whose animals are stricken with cancer.

I am amazed and highly encouraged that you've threaded into your pattern of shows so much of the life that I am living!

....your show's unique portrayal of cancer awareness on your breast cancer segment ....your pottery shelves turning backdrop to a jungle of "beautiful creatures"....then Gloria, Animal Planet, and a family's heart wrenching animal hospice.

How could I possibly have expected to see all of this when I was pen prepped for recipes!

Let me start telling you the story of how hundreds of lives across the nation have been carried through the storm by a Weimaraner gal named 'Professor Zimbabweeps'.

Let me tell you about a hot line, a product line, a made for TV movie, an amputee greyhound --- and a journey that one long eared gray Weimaraner has crafted into the diploma of a lifetime -- for me, and our grief callers who ask for "Professor".

Body and Soul is not plentiful in our area though the locale is intellectually and consumer sound. We're pretty much the collegiate crowd - Brown, RISD, Wellesley, Wheaton, Harvard - many students are not aware of Body and Soul.

I had been interested in promoting the magazine to my contingency at one time - a few words with Dawna Stone, your winner of Martha Stewart, The Apprentice, in 2006. Still today many of our newest consumers, these affluent students are not cultured up to Body and Soul!

The Dean of Health an Wellness at Wheaton College will be meeting with me this week. He is quite interested in inviting you to be highlighted speaker for a health and wellness media event on November 10th.

I am creating a campaign illustrating Wellness Within the American Family. It will also introduce the family animal into that plan in ways new to the charts.

MY INITIAL TARGET GROUP WILL BE OUR NEWEST CONSUMERS AND CORPORATE LEADERS, THE UNIVERSITY GRAD.

Starting with my New England Ivy League liaisons, I will gather wellness experts to assist me in promoting top notch living on campus, in the home and workplace, and wrap a twist to the enticement, inviting the family pet to the table. The pet market is currently a 36 billion dollar per year industry. I doubt that Fido will be turned away.

"Just use a throw away", she said.

The crowd was wrapping through the aisles and thickening at the gate.

I suppose she's right. If I drop a plastic camera and see it ground into popcorn by the oncoming theatre of boots and shoes, there'll be no cost or cringe.

While cloaking myself as juggler of her three media-hounded canines, on tour with the this mother of theirs, I created safe hugs for them just behind the corner of her book signing table. There, a step back from a mountain of mouth buzzing, foot shuffling autograph seekers, . . . I took pictures.

From behind this wooden table, Martha Stewart braced herself for a downpour of words, keepsakes and handshakes. Dog hair by the bale swirled off of Paw Paw, the Chow. Water cups spilled on rugs, with her French Bull Dogs Francesca and Sharkey, too noseless to reach in.

I, in a blissful state by now, fell into repose as one of a thousands cogs,
all click clacking in rhythm.

And those cameras?
They saw a good time too.

No throw away about it.

MOSES _______

I needed to find Professor's genetic heir before she died.

A cross country search found him.

The puppy Moses of national champion line, traced himself right to Professor's show stopping St. Louis lineage. I hurried across state to meet him, to hug him home.

Nose to nose they met. Then, within seconds, she collapsed.

A few days later......... Spencer,* his new puppy brother, and I drove Professor to a table and a.......needle. Nine week old Moses then drove Spencer and I home.

He sat on the lawn of this new home and stared through the eyes of those who were left.

Moses the loving.......Three years into his brotherhood with Spencer there would be a splitting of souls. A fight between them.....costing thousands to repair each beautiful animal would not alter Moses' love for Spencer......Still, today he reaches to stare through the eyes of he who was left.

And we,......... we hold fast to Moses who would not only struggle our struggle, but would come to endure his own. Taunted by an array of immuno-deficiency diseases, he took treatment for life threatening facial muscle disease to serious eye malfunction.

Today, years later, Moses walks tall.....perfectly healthy, with no struggle at all. This is MOSES, named for the suffering.

AND in that suffering ..............we would all come to bear the birth of unfaltering faith and a skyscraper strength .... through his eyes.

The Weimaraners for Sale classifieds landed on the car seat, and off Andrea and Professor drove to a town called Lakeville.

With Professor's radiation 'X' painted across her back, she enthusiastically urged Andrea to put that one male in the car.

Spencer gave Professor life where there was none. For one year and 2 weeks there was merriment laughing death to the shadows. The doctors said there was no explanation for Professor's well being. 'FResh Spencer,' 'ATTitude Spencer,' the most aggressive Weimaraner trainers have ever seen, had made us a miracle.

He was her glory, and he became mine.

....Attacking a state police dog, though he was muzzled, to defend the honor of my pocketbook on the floor across the room .....coaching his own veterinarian out of a coma after a serious accident.
This is SPENCER, . . . named from my name. The entire Spencer clan gone on before me, he, my dog, the last of the crest.

DESERVES BLUE RIBBON AS HUGE AS HIS HEART

Martha Stewart, animal advocate about to be awarded for such by the ASPCA, fell victim to a fire taking the life of her chow. Many other canines also perished in a kennel propane explosion in Pennsylvania this month (see March 9th post below).

A man named TIMOTHY rescued other dogs over a fence as he himself was on fire. This critically injured propane truck driver has become the HERO OF DOGS to many of us.

There will be a national card to him from Andrea and the Weimaraners, and the hundreds of well wishers who expressed condolences on THE MARTHA BLOG. We speak with Martha about Timothy and a rallying for him in the letter below.

I'm endeavoring to get a kindness for PROPANE INJURED TIMOTHY off of the ground.

The National Recovery Card described below is not a fund raiser as your other kind posts are. It is another form of giving.

It's simply a get well card to sustain Timothy's and his family's hopes that there are many, many of us who blogged you, who will continue to be there for them after the initial time of chaos.

There are many of your bloggers who have written me with EBULLIENT SUPPORT for this ongoing project! However, there are also many others who have blogged you that they care, but can not reach me to contribute their names since they have no web site for me to reach out to.

. . . I would like to THANK ALL OF YOU who have contacted me about becoming a 'seed of recovery' for TIMOTHY, THE CRITICALLY INJURED HERO OF DOGS in the Chow kennel explosion.

This story, described on THE MARTHA BLOG within the entry 'a terrible event,' has moved me to create a NATIONAL RECOVERY CARD for Timothy and his family. I will continue to contact each one of you personally as an invitation to join the grand listing of well wishers.

The card will be highlighted on Andrea and the Weimaraners from the National Cancer Sociey for Animals, and go onward to its national connectors.

Most importantly, it will be from the 100's of caring bloggers from THE MARTHA BLOG, and hopefully from MARTHA herself!!

THIS PERPETUAL SEEDING OF SUPPORT WILL GROW TO ASSURE TIMOTHY AND HIS FAMILY THAT THERE IS NO POINT AT WHICH HEALING IS TO BE FORGOTTEN.

Professor to the World . . .

She died. She simply died.

I saw the last pulse vanish out of her arm as the veterinarian's needle extracted her life away.

Her name was Professor.

Her head dropped from my arms 10 years ago today. I am writing to you all between miracles and tears.

On this day I turn a story over to you all, a national story.
